Contract Let For Mew High School " ' ' The past week a contract was let for the erection of a new t i high school building here. Work .' will begin in the immediate fu ture.; ihe contract was award--. ed to' the Draper Construction Co., of hogan, for the erection ' of the building at a cost of $87, 800.00. ' : ; " The plumbing and heating con tract going to Hayden Long, of Salt Lake City, for $15,000. The building will occupy a space covering 62 feet. 6 in. by ' 92 feet 6 in. land will be built of V .... pressed brick with terra cotta ; " trimmings., The basement will contain the Auto Mechanics work shop, the wood-workin- g department, also a boiler, coal and fan room. , , The ground floor will have 3 rooms, a teachers room, a scien-- . r tific laboratory room with stor-- . age room in connection and toi-- .. .. lets. . The first floor will contain five class rooms, lecture hall and the : principal's office. The second floor will have the Auditorium with stage and with 4 dressing rooms which is to seat ; 500 people, also the school libra-r- y and a projecting room for ' motion pictures. The creek will be flumed and athletic grounds laid out in front of the building. The present high school build-ing will be used as a grade school V when the new building is com-- '. plete. It is the desire of the members of the Jordan School Board that the building be ready for occu-- , - pancy by September. The plumbing shop of the J. Bogan Hardware Store has un-dergone repairs and is now one of the most up-to-d- shops ot its kind in the camp. The Mark Sett Orchestra, of the Hotel Utah dispensed dance music on Tuesday night at, the new dance hall known at "Dream Land" a large number attended and the , remark was passed "Such a beautiful number of young ladies had not been seen on a Bingham floor for many years." One of the main at-tractions at these popular dances is the soft drink bar operated by A.'W. Kingsberry who .al-ways provides the best procur-able for his patrons. John Condas, the popular and well known sheep man of Salt Lake City, was visiting friends here last Wednesday. - Theros Katex the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Katex, died on Thursday last of pneu-monia at the family home in Copperfield. He was born at Salt Lake City on August 20, 1922. Funeral services were held from the Greek Orthodox Church at Salt Lake on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. B. Kar-ahale- s in charge. Interment was made in Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of O'Donneli Undertaking Co. General Manager S. Kellock, of the Ohio Copper Mining Co. was in Bingham on Tuesday in-specting the properties here. A three and half ton truck owned by Morrison Merrill and Co. taking a load of cement to Copperfield on. Wednesday back-ed in on the sidewalk in the up-per part of. town with the,, re-sult the weight was too much and the truck crushed in the board side-wal- k, depositing the truck over on its side. Dudley was a business visitor to Ogden on Thursday. Attorney Ray McCarty, of the Felt Building, was in camp on business Wednesday. Hartley Tyson was granted his naturlization papers at Salt Lakevn Monday and is now a full-fledg- ed citizen. ' Peter Olsen, a popular sheep-man from San Pete County, was an interested visitor in camp on Tuesday last. The Gibson Girl3 Orchestra of Salt Lake have been engaged and will give one of their popu-lar dances in "Dreamland" on April 1st. This .is no fool affair and please don't entertain the thought. Death and Funeral of ) Dr. Joseph Marriott . Dr. Joseph Marriott, father of Joseph Marriott, Jr., a promi- -' - - nent figure . in Bingham for .a - number of years, died at a Salt . Lake hospital on Monday last. Dr. Marriott was born in Not-- tinghamshire, England, April 4, 1838 and emigrated to this coun-- 1 try in 1861. His wife died in 1873 and he settled on a home- -' stead one mile east of Sandy . where he began the study ot medicine and successfully pass-ed and became a charter mem-ber of the Utah Pharmaceutical ' - Association and in 1894 received ,his certificate to piactice medi-- - cine. Dr. Marriott had a number of . , friends and admirers in Bing-ham and at one time was a mu-sician of considerable ability his favorite instrument being the violin. . Funeral services were held on Thursday from the ed . Church of Latter-da- y Saints at . . Salt Lake City with a large num-be- r of friends from Bingham at-tending. Dr. Marriott made a special request before his death that no flowers be sent to his funeral, which matter , was strictly, ob-served. Wallace, goitre expert, of the Rockefeller Foundation, spent Tuesday and Wednesday here examining the school child-ren for traces of goitre. In the Bingham High School 33 per cent of the boys were found to be affected while the girls numbered 57 per cent. The lower grades .showed 16 per cent of the boys and 27 per .cent of the girls were found to have enlarged thyroid glands. The Copperfield School had a . percentage of 27 for boys and 34 for girls. Dr. Wallace gave an interesting address to the par-ents on Wednesday afternoon in the Bingham High School Aud-itorium.
