Show SPORTSMEN ASK GOVERNOR'S AID Duck Hunters Appeal to State's Executive Exec-utive to Helo Them Out of Difficulty. A number of sportsmen have appealed ap-pealed to Governor Spry to do something some-thing In behalf of duck shooting. These sportsmen believe there Is a means at hand and a dimple one to Improve Im-prove the conditions materially with regard to the duck situation. "We think something should be done," said one Monday, "to give the duck hunters some sort of a square deal. There Is annually paid Into the fish and game fund of the stale $35.-01.111 $35.-01.111 to $4u,uu0 from licenses for fishing fish-ing and hunting. Every cent 01 this money Is devoted to the benefit of , the fish. New hatcheries are built and equipped and everything this revenue rev-enue will buy goes to the propagation and distribution of fish. "Now, the men who liko to' shoot, duck hunters especially, have only J a few weeks of shooting, although the I law permits shooting for three months I In the year, while anglers have many months of tlshlng. Nothing has been 1 done for the protection of ducks. We beliee that at least a small petition of the money accruing from licenses should be used to Improve sanitary conditions and then there would be no more epidemics of fatal diseases among ducks. Ordinary sanitary condition con-dition at least, shoulj be observed in this connection. "If the state board of examiners, which has the power to do so, would take some of this money and purify the grounds the birds would get well of their own accord. The ducks have cholera, due to overcrowding and low water. "One hundred men employed three lays would bury all of the dead ducks and stop all contagion. Nature will do (he rest with rains and frosts. "The remedy, therefore, is simple, and we earnestly hope that the governor gov-ernor may be able to help us out of our dilemma. We think the suggestions sugges-tions we offer are reasonable and cer-tainly cer-tainly work no hardship on the fish division di-vision of our fish and game protection." protec-tion." I |
