Show BIG FORCE TO WEIGH MAILS Beginning Thursday morning, and continuing for 105 days. Uic United States government mail weighers, thirty-three of whom will work under the direction of the chief clerk of the 1 Railway Mall Service at Ogden, will begin their work. The work, which is done by the government every four years, is for the purpose of securing an average of the weight of the mail carried by the railroads as the basis for tho new con-tract con-tract Every pouch of mail of any class, arriving and departing on any train, will be weighed at the scales tho government gov-ernment has erected at the Union Depot, and which will be In charge of a man for the government as well as one for the railroad company. In addition to the welching at the depot, eery train carrying mall will carry a government weigher, who will weigh each pouch received and dispatched dis-patched by tho matl car. Tho weighing of the mall at the depot will necessitate the employment of a number of extra men, as It bas to be done with the areatost rapidity, so as to cause no delay in the opera-lion opera-lion of the trains |
