Thb coroner's Inquest In-quest in the John Hancock murder case was concluded tonight shortly before midnight. But little has been learned regarding the brutal murder of the man who was lured to his death, .bv a decoy note, which stated that a iilend was ill In St. John's hospital and wanted Hancock to como to lilra. The verdict of the Jury follows: "We, the Jury, duly Impanelled by the coroner of Lewis and Clark county, coun-ty, state of Montana, to hold an !u-quest !u-quest over the body of John Hancock, rind that the said John Hancock died from the effect of wounds inflicted on his head with some blunt Instrument., causing the fracture of the skull, at tiro hands of some person or persons to this Jury unknown, on Friday, JaiL 15." Tim Canty, a 13-year-old boy, testified testi-fied to accompanying the messenger to the Hancock house on the night of the murder and seeing Mr. Hancok como to the door. He gave the name of the boy rs John Graner, and stated tnnt he had known him for some time. On the night of the murder he showed him where Hancock lived, but thought no more of the matter until afterward when the search for the messenger be-pnn. be-pnn. Since that time, the boy claims be has been looking for the Graner bo, tut has been 'unable to find any trace-of trace-of him. Norman Prlndahl was with the Canty boy on the night the message mes-sage was delivered and sworo he heard a woman's voice when the message mes-sage was delivered, but could notse? through the door. The authorities arc basing their hopes on the discovery discov-ery of the messenger and believe that he wall yet be found. The directory does not give the name Graner, but they believe the boy made a mistake in the name. Sam Walker, president of the Helena local union was unable to prove an alibi. He was a partner with Hancock in a mining deal and had had trouble with him and Mrs. Hancock made charges against him, declaring Bhe committed perjury at the inquest through fear of Walker. |
