Show EDISON STILL AT WORK. We have an Idea that Thomas A. Edison Ed-ison is the best advertiser in the country, coun-try, says the Joplin News-Herald. Only a few short months ago he announced that henceforth ho Intended to quit his industrial inventive work and apply himself to unraveling a number of interesting in-teresting propositions he had discovered discov-ered in his laboratories. He intimated that his chlof Interest would be in chemistry. Now comes a dispatch from New York stating that Edison has proved conclusively that his new storage battery bat-tery is a success. Next spring ho intends in-tends to place it in a surface car on the New Yoik system and see whether it will stand up under the heavy traffic traf-fic of that city. Three or four year3 ago he said his battery would supplant the average battery constructed of lead and zinc. His new battery Is made of nickle, and the reaction is alkaline and not acid. The heaviest trucks have proved successful and the batteries have suffered no diminution In power. One of the ideals of the inventor has been the self-propelling ehIclo that shall bo suitable for taking the place of the trolley wires. The so-called so-called motor car has proved a partial success, though the pounding of the machinery has been a hindrance to its development. If Edison really has produced a battery that shall fulfill the claims mado in its behalf, the world will be the richer. |
