Show AGED PIONEER DIES AT FAMIILY RESIDENCE Salt Lake.. March 22. Mrs. Mary McKay Smith, wife of John Y. Smith, died Sunday at the family residence, C03 Second East street, at the age of 85 years. She had been 111 but a comparatively com-paratively short time. Mrs. Smith was born on December 25. 1822. and in 1840 she moved to Scotland, where she Joined the Mormon church ten years later. In 1859 she came to this country and crossed the plains with a hand-cart as a member of Captain Rowley's company. She had alwaB been a loyal and dovoted member of the Mormon church and possessed a host of friends among the pioneers and those ot the younger generation. Mrs. Smith is survived -by her husband hus-band and one sister, Mrs. Esther SleBh-man SleBh-man of Wellsvllle, and by one brother, James B. McKay of Malad City, Ida. |
