The ' cotton industry in South Africa Is rapidly coming to the notice of the world, and already It is suppljlng a visible percentage of tho cotton used !n cloth manufactured In England. Exports estimate that there are four million acres of good soil available in tho Transvaal, Swaziland and Zulu-laml Zulu-laml for cotton growing which could bo made to yield a crop worth $13,-000,000 $13,-000,000 annually, and at the sanio time solve the unemployment problem of the country. The possibilities of cotton growing are evidenced by the fact that in 190m the rrop totalled 12,000 pounds of lint, while in 1921 it was estimated at 2, 000. 000 pounds. Practically all of tho crop is being shipped to England, where It finds a ready maskct because of its fine texture. |
