Show OGDEN MM IS RAILWITNESS W. A. Whitney Says Joint Operations of Terminals Is Feasible i WASHINGTON, Dee. rj Experts in railroad management called before the Interstate commerce commission today by the Union Pacific railroad, testified testi-fied that arrangements for tho Joint use of tracks, terminals and railroad facilities on the Pacific coast between the Central l'acific and Southern Pacific Pa-cific railroads are entirely feasible and practical. The evidence was brought to bear against the Southern Pacific's application to be allowed to retain its .present control of the Central Pacific I system. Southern Pacific officials previously had argued before the com-, com-, mission that a division of tho two railroads rail-roads would bring about confusion In transportation service, waste, and other oth-er public dlsadvantugi -. H. C. Nutt, former general manager mana-ger of the Los Angeles and Salt Lake railroad now supervising joint rail-jroad rail-jroad operations of the New York Central Cen-tral and Pennsylvania railroads, declared de-clared that such arrangements are common among railroads. Two or more systems on tho Pacific coast could use tho same tracks and terminals ter-minals w ithout any disadvantages and without Impairment of service, he asserted. as-serted. W. A. Whitney, general manager of the Utah Rapid Transit company and formerly a division superintendent of the Southern Pacific, took the same position He declared the two corporations corpor-ations could continue to render after separation such service that shippers and the general public would hardly be aware of tho change. ! oo |
