Show FIRST SKIRMISH IN FORD BATTLE Nitrate Plant Proposal Given Conditional Approval WASHINGTON. June 3 Henry Ford's proposal to develop the government gov-ernment s vast power and nitrate projects pro-jects at Muscle Shoals, Ala , was given conditional approval b the house mll-Itarv mll-Itarv committee today and ordered reported re-ported to the house with a recommendation recommen-dation that It be accepted In the form agreed to in committee. The action was taken by a vote of 12 to 0. ln ex- BOUtlva session and was interpreted ly committeemen generally as being In effect but the preliminary skirmish to what promises to become a bit-, terly contested battle between the pro- ponents and opponents o( the Ford offer of-fer in the house In arriving at its final decision, the committee decided to eliminate from the properties covered ln the Ford offer of-fer the stoam plant at Gorges, Ala,, and agreed with W B- Mayo and J. W. j Worthington, representatives of the. Detroit manufacturer, upon new lan-( guage regulating the manufacture of fertilizers. In all other respects the Ford offer was fully approved. Mr Mayo declared he regarded the committee action as a decisive victory vic-tory for Mr Ford and that a more determined effort than ever before now would be made to obtain th-properties. |
