Show SMOKE FROM PLANE MAKES 'SKY WRITING' LONDON' June 3 (By the Associated Asso-ciated Presn ) The Dally Mail ha3 introduced "skv writing" as a new means of advertising. The writing ls done by un airplane equipped with a smoke producing deviot- and an automatically au-tomatically controlled ejecter. The first experiment was made over Epsorn Downs on Derby day. and it wa- o successful that great possibilities possi-bilities are seen In the enterprise. The throngs along the race course first saw what appeared to he a long, slender, blackish cloud marring the otherwise clear ky. As they watched, watch-ed, however, they saw the gradual formation of the letter "D" against the sky. A moment later a second letter took shape. The crowds, mystified mys-tified aa to how the letters wore an- nhored in space. used powerful glasses with which they were Just able to sec the plane, a more dot. emitting great clouds of smoke during dur-ing its skilfully maneuvered flight. The letter remained clearly defined i for more than five minutes. The ninej letters c omposing th sign "Dally i Mall." had been spelled backwards so that they would face the crowds below in their proper position It took fhe minutes of a carefully planned plan-ned flight, during which millions of cubic feet of smoke were ejected. 1 The smoke trail composing the letters let-ters was 10 miles long and the completed com-pleted e'.gn was three miles wide and two and one-half miles from the ground.
