Show II i CLOTHES SEEM TO BE UNNECESSARY. Well, what next! The girls in one of the departments in Wosh- j ington have appeared in bare knees. Pieces of feminine wearing ap- ' parel arc being lopped off, until no one can foretell just how much .clothing a girfwill require late this summer. A message from Washington says: .Following a general "understanding," so to speak; most of the S000 girls employed in that government depart-' l meut appeared at work today in half hose. Aud as their I skirts were far from the austere length -their grandmothers Ij wore, those who boasted a dimpled knee would have had If considerable difficulty in concealing that pleasant fact had I they tried. Encouraged by the ease with which the war risk I girls "got away with it," those of other departments are I planning to do likewise. The result is that Secretary of I State Colby, Secretary of War Baker, Secretary of the Navy I Daniels and other department heads are due for a test, of I their broaclmindedness. v j I Our great-grandfathers, if they could return, would be readjust- I ing their specs and our 'great-grandmothers .would drop. in a faint I at the sight. |
