April 1C Testimony of JoHcph Scowcroft of Ogden was again offcrod yesterday in the hearing hear-ing of the federal trade commission complaint against the Amalgamated Sugar company, of which, Mr. Scowcroft Scow-croft Is vice-president, and the Utah-Idaho Utah-Idaho Sugar compdny. The examination examina-tion of Mr. Scowcroft was completed at yesterday's session, which was ad-journod ad-journod at.l o'clock because of the holiday. Tells of Option In his testimony Mr. Scowcroft told of an option the Amalgamated Sugar company now holds on the purchase of controlling Interest in the West Cache Sugar company from Ernest II. Woolloy. He related some of the Incidents Inci-dents leading up to the obtaining of this option from the Eccles Interest and of the history of the West Cache company enterprise In Cache valley. To Develop Territory Mr. Scowcroft was questioned further fur-ther yesterday by Henry Ward Boor, attorney for tho trade commission, regarding re-garding alleged agreements respect-' respect-' ing divisions of territory. Evidence was introduced by thegovernment to show that tho Amalgamated ceded certain territory in the Cacho valley to the Utah-Idaho and that the Utah-r" Utah-r" Idaho was to build an interurban to their plant at Garland as a means of I preventing the invasion of the terri tory by independents., j It was natural, Mr. Scowcroft testl- flcd for the Amalgamated to seek to $1 protect Its own territory and it would ?: have hardly been a good business ty ) proposition for an Independent to ' build In the district after the building of a spur to develop the territory and handle the beets produced. MacinJUaji, counsel fpr ;, the Amalgamated, entered his general objection to the testimony and par-j par-j ?jr ticularly objected to questions regard- ing the West Cacho negotiations and j deals on tho ground that it was an S intrastate transaction, not material i y and not within the issues of the com- 5 '' plaint. - ' In connection with tho option held by tho Amalgamated for control of ' the West Cache, Mr. Beer asked Mr. Scowcroft to relate other incidents where the Amalgamated had leaned " money to competing irulependontn.
