Show II ; ' , PAY OF MINISTERS. ' . .. I -Appealingjto the sense of duty of the Christians of' the United ; States, the Interchureh organization is. pointing out .that th.c.a vera ge ui jninister in the United, States does notTeqeive, sufficient compensa- ion to keep his family free from charity-whenever sickliness enters he home. I The source .of the best influence in this country-is the church. I JSvery moral impulse is there upheld and, supported ; every precept that is elevating therein is preached aud practiced. S "With temptations multiplying; with" moral forces beingmadc " (lght of; with frivolity gaining a strong hold, there should" come n' j; grjeater demand for the strengthening of the power of the eh'ureh. But "no church can reach its highest development and serve to great-! est purpose-. unless it be fittingly maintained; unless the servants be J " ; jleemed worthy of their hire and allowed to concentrate their cner-i cner-i ies on something above the dire necessities of life. Our ministers should not be cheapened by being held in the atti-I atti-I judc of recipients of charity. They should be decently housed, Hothed and fed, and given first place in community affairs. They ' fchould be dignified by being accorded the respect which brings a reward above a' niggardly stipend, jj In this connection it is also proper to call attention to the fact Jhat alongside the minister of the gospel in the prcaehing of right onduct is the school teacher, and the teachers should receive more ' pompensation, than they are now given. |
