Carranza Refuses to Break Up Plantations WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 The breaking break-ing up of the large henequin plantations planta-tions In Yucatan and their distribution among the Indians for the cultivation rof grain recommended by the social- ists of the slate, has been refused by President Carranza, it was reported today in advices from Mexico City. The recommendation was refused, the advises said, on the grounds that the lands, particularly adapted to the production pro-duction of henequin, which is used extensively ex-tensively in the manufacture of rope and binder twine, would be little use to the Indians who did not understand the cultivation of henequin. Other lands, it was said, already had been apportioned to the Indians. The socialists so-cialists claimed the government was not getting an adequate return from the henequin lands. oo |
