Show Tank Steamer Breaks in Two and Sinks NEW YORK, Jan 30. The American Ameri-can tank steamer Mielero from Matan-zas. Matan-zas. Cuba, January 23, for Philadelphia broke in two and sank at sea, according accord-ing to a wireless message received here today by the naval communications communica-tions sen-ice. One boat with the chief officor and seventeen meir has been picked up by the steamer Ozetto and another boat "with tho "captain "and 22 iaon is still missing. The loss of the tanker was reported by the steamer Ozelte by wireless relayed re-layed by the U. S. S. Clemson. Captain's boat with 22 men of crew still adrift. Heavy northwest seas moderating." The message was dated at 11:30 a. in. today. The Mielero was owned by the Cuba Distilling company nnd she carried a cargo of l.GOO.OOO gallons of molasses in hulk. She was built at Quincy, Mass., in 1917 and registered 5.5S3 gross tons. Representatives here of tho Cuba Distilling company said they had received re-ceived no information beyond that contained in the radio dispatch. |
