Show ED CROSS APPEALS TO BOARD OF HI MUSES Though the Red Cross has adequatac funds, it is unable loprocure the services serv-ices of nurses to meet the local situation, sit-uation, according to John Edward Carver, Car-ver, chairman, who has made this ap-people ap-people to the board of health." "To the Board of Health: "The American Red Cross finds itself it-self in rather a difficult position regarding re-garding the giving of assistance to the citizens of the county and city who ire seeking for nurses and housekeepers house-keepers to serve in homes "where there s influenza. The number of homes nsking for this help is far in excess of the number of persons who are offering offer-ing to go to theso homes as care-takers and nurses. "It is not the part of the Red Cross o say how great is the need for these helpers or how serious is the present condition. Ours is the responsibility .f securing aid for all who ask it for it is ever presupposed that none will ask for this aid unless they really need it. At present we cannot provide pro-vide half enough housekeepers and nurses to answer our calls. The town nust either realize that there is a real need for workers in homes that ask for help or this help cannot be given. The Red Cross will pay liberally for any service in homes where it is needed- We have the money but we cannot can-not secure the workers. "It docs appear that any request or statement the board of health can make that will lead the citizens to realize the present need would be iimely. Surely the board of health van count upon the loyal :ind sympathetic sym-pathetic attention on the part of the cltizenB to any suggestions the board if health may make.
