Show METHODIST. Rev Christian R. Carver preached a sermon Sunday night upon the following fol-lowing theme: "The Brand Cpon the Forehead." He said in part : 'I recently read a story which made a lasting impression upon me. An aged minister one Sunday evening ; came from the pulpit, and sank into a cozy chair. His little granddaugh-' ter. Marjorle. was allowed to all up on his lap and stay up beyond her usual bedtime that she might talk with her grandpa before he retired This was a real treat, not only to Marjorle, but io the rest of the household. house-hold. The aged minister found roth j Ing more relaxing than this very ! thing. Upon this particular evening some problem balfled her, and the minister, noting her perplexity, asked her the trouble. She replied, 'I've been reading, grandpa, while you were at church. I've been reading about heaven, and there is one thing I cannot make out My Bible says there shall be no sickness, nor sadness, nor bigh-mg bigh-mg in heaven' and it also .says: 'His name shall be in their foreheads.' What does that mean, grandpa? "'They will write it themselves, girlie." Write it themselves, grandpa, but how?' 'Why. Marjorle. we are every day writing the name of our masters on our foreheads Some peo pie serve sin, and sin stamps itself upon their foreheads. Some aerVe 'enre and it brands their foreheads with deep wrinkles. Health, anger, i hate. love, jealousy, joy, all set their 1 marks upon the forehead of those who follow. And those that love the Iord Jesus will write the name of their dear Master upon their fore heads They cannot help it.' "And Marjorie, looking into the deep and kindly eye-s of her grandfather, still glowing with a fender flame, looked upon his splendid face and massive forehead, so expressive o her that she erled 'l think I understand now.' She had solved a profound problem. "The brand upon the forehead Isi not placed there by others. It is a' l. : ectly natural and simple matter We have It ourselves We choose the lords who shall have dominion over us, and eerythlng else comes as! a matter of course. Passion or pur-l ity , love or hale serve whom you will; but In due time the name ot your lord will be found on your fore-i head. In reading a missionary Jour-1 nal I was arrested by an article written writ-ten by one of our women missionaries, 1 called: 'The Uplift of China.' In it the writer speaks most graphically of( the physical transformation which the I love of Christ brings out on the faces Of the women of China In sustain-Ing sustain-Ing her point this missionary quotes from a non missionary writer who said: 'What a radiant peace and up-j up-j lift of soul I have seen upon some Christian faces. They have a ereat moral treasure which the Chinese people peo-ple have kept locked up all these centuries.' It Is said that certain villagers In China mistook a saintly woman to be 'some relative of God.'i He adds. 'To Judge from the beatific expression on the faces of certain converts I have met, the Gospel means to them what opening the hatches of a captured slave-ship meant to the wretches pent up in its hold.'
