Show I RESTAURANT MEN MAY FIND k WAY TO SAVE WITHOUT THE ! MEATLESS-WHEATLESS DAYS The restaurant men of Ogden are mmV planning on a meeting for the purpose of adopting means to help the gov- ernment in the campaign of food con-1 con-1 servation. This meeting has been call- ed for Monday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, and every restaurant man in the city H: "will bo requested to be present. While a meatless and a wheatless day has H; been advocated, it is thought that ev- en a better plan than that can be dc-Ht dc-Ht vised . What It will bo has not been intimated. With the advocacy of a "Wheatless Hj Wednesday," the problem to be settled is the one of the high cost of corn. Hj It is said that this grain costs more Ht in Ogden than does the wheat. One restaurant man told a Standard Hj reporter today that when one takes mL Into consideration the fact that the H crusts of all bread served on the tables Hj of restaurants and cafes is a loss, there certainly is a demand for some action. He said that out of several dozen H! loaves of bread served dally in his H1 place, the crusts, in most Instances, H: wont into .the waste can. It was flg-Hj flg-Hj ured that out of every six loaves of bread served, one loaf was wasted In crusts. "And," said this proprietor,, j "If we attempted to servo these crusts H; the best part of tho bread our pa- trons would be highly insulted. This Is one most important way we can Hj save, and it would not necessarily H mean a wheatloss day." And much butter could be saved by H serving in small quantities. H1 A petition is be.ing circulated to have H all of the restaurant men at the meet-H! meet-H! ing and all havewillingly signed, and H! are glad to co-operate in any way to conserve the food supply. Hl It is thought that after tho mooting Hj Monday, certain rules will be laid down Hj in each public eating place In the city i whereby the patrons will he obliged Hj! to help conserve. But these rules will Hj he designed in such a way that pcr-Hl pcr-Hl fectly satisfactory meals will be serv-Hl serv-Hl cd and surprising results are expect-H1 expect-H1 ed from the campaign. H. Before Sunday, each man will be i seen and his signaturo attached to the 1 petition, which will bo published to-l to-l morrow. In order to make the plan p success, every place in the city must co-operate, because unless the plan is universal among tho cafes, it will fall, and that is being impressed on the proprietors. pro-prietors. Pursuant with the ' plan announced yesterday in the Standard, a sample menu for a "Meatless Tuesday1' will be published on Monday and a sample menu for a "Wheatless Wednesday," will appear on Tuesday. These have both been tried In a local cafe and found most satisfactory, in fact the proprietor was complimented on his patriotism and the excellent meals he served. nn |
