Show OAKLAND LANDMARK! IS FACING DOOM OAKLAND. Cal., Nov. 7. Unless the city of Oakland takes steps to have it utilized, the famous "long wharf," one of the "landmarks" of San Francisco boy. is doomed. The city recently refused re-fused to allow the company now holding hold-ing the wharf to use it further, and ordered it destroyed. "Loag Wharf" reaches out almost to Goat island from one of the principal moles on this side of the bay. Before the big ferry boats had the art of navigation learned as vc'.l as they have it now, they used to jamb up against wharf in rough weather. It was off this wharf that the ferry boat "El Capitan" was rammed and sunk by another ferry in the early days of navigation on the bav. . " t |
