Show ALARMING REPORT ! DECLARED UNTRUE LONDON, Nov. 8. The following official of-ficial announcement was issued tonight; to-night; "A statement from a correspondent of the Associated Press at Italian headquarters appeared in the British press today. This statement set out to remind the allies that something more than assurances were needed for getting reinforcements in men and munitions to the threatened Italian lines and purported to reflect the feeling feel-ing of the Italians who were represented repre-sented as distrusting the allied efforts to help them. It also was stated that the enemy masses were so overwhelming overwhelm-ing that nothing but effective reinforcements rein-forcements will turn the tide. "This alarmist statement is absolutely abso-lutely uncalled for, and is calculated to do grave harm by suggesting that tho seriousness of the military situation in Italy is not appreciated by her allies and that tn laV arc not giving her the support she requires. Th2-"-a is no. truth whatever in these assertions. " The statement that the enemy masses are overwhelming is an absurd exaggeration." exag-geration." The dispatch to which the foregoing British official statement refers was sent by the Associated Press correspondent corres-pondent at Italian headquarters on November 7. The correspondent is an American staff man, who was present at the beginning of the Italian retreat and accompanied the Italian army back to its present position.
