Show General Pershing Or-ganizes Or-ganizes and Commands Com-mands Five Corps. WITH THE AMERICAN ARMY IN FRANCE, Sunday, Aug. 11. (By the (Associated Press) Organization of I the first American field army of five corps has been completed. The army will be commanded by General Pershing Per-shing and will operate in the area north of the Marnc from which the Germaps have been driven out. The American divisions which participated in the drive are included In the first army. General Pershing, who retains his post as chief of the American expeditionary expe-ditionary forces, after a time will relinquish re-linquish .the command of the first army but possibly not until organization of a second army is well under .way. " Meanwhile he will hav'e two headquarters headquar-ters at tho first army as well as at general headquarters. The size of the army has not been announced but the indications are that I it contains five corps commanded by j Major-Generals Liggett, Bullard, Bun-I Bun-I dy. Reed and Wright. ! Each corps is composed of several (divisions with each division including 1 30,000 troops of all arms, while the I corps, in addition, will have its com-jplement com-jplement of auxiliary troops, supply I troops, air squadrons, tanks and hea-J hea-J vy artillery. It is understood that other i kinds. It is understood that other 'armies will be formed shortly in view of the recent Washington announcement announce-ment that 1,300.000 American troops '. already ha's e sailed for France. |
