Show ALLIES MOVING . AHEADJNSTORM French Make Usefihl and Notable No-table Gains, Outflank St. I Quentin and Threaten St. Gobain. PARIS, Sept. 11 Dad weather continues con-tinues over the battle front, hampering hamper-ing the operations from Rheims to Yprcs. Nevertheless, the allies have kept moving in the teeth of tho storm and despite the stiff German resistance resis-tance and today at several points are appreciably nearer tho Hindenburg line. The French have made notably useful gains as the result of which they outflank St. Quentln from the south and threaten tho St Gobain massif from the rear. Numerous raids are reported to have been made by the enemy which indicates indi-cates that ho Is trying extremely hard to find out what Marshal Foch is going go-ing to do next. Ludondorff evidently realizes that Foch with the eve'r-growing eve'r-growing American reserves behind him. is able to strike at several points simultanously or in quick succession. I That the Germans do not intend more than a temporatv stand on the Hindenburg line is inferred from the fact that they are burning LaFere and are removing overything from tho Doual arsenal and the aviation centers cen-ters at LaBrayolIo and the LeCelles near St. Amand. The last named airdrome air-drome is that from which the Gothas have flown to London. In military circles it is believed the enemy eventually will fall back from a line running from Lille to Motz, behind be-hind Lens, Douai, Cambrai, LaFere and Laon. |
