Show HUMANE SOCIETY NEEDED Editor Standard: I That letter by Miss Van Kirk. In , Saturday's Standard, was mighty good reading, because it revealed a gre&l I soul In a great cause a merciful plea I for the mutely helpless horse, the truest and best friend, except wife and mother, man ever had. Miss Van Kirk was reared in New York and has traveled much and intelligently in-telligently observed the world through which she moves. I have read with interest of the growth of thoueht and activity along humane lines that reach out to lift up the helpless of all created beings, both human and brute, and concede that what she has said is both timely and instructive. Salt Lake City, and all cities and ! country towns of the whole country, I from Maine to California, are alive in j the work lo protect the helpless horse i from an inhumane master, and Ogden and Weber county should wake up and take a hand in the noble work. Before Miss Van Kirk leaves this part of the country I hope to see a strong humane society, or whatever It may be called, organized and placed on a substantial foundation. I hope a meeting will soon be called at some central place in Ogden and that the people will come to it and show an in-lerest in-lerest in the great work of helping the helpless. (Signed.) A. S.
