Show DEALERS WINED AS TO MISUSE OF HERS Pursuant to a controversy that has arisen as to the oxtent dealers in automobiles au-tomobiles are permitted to uso their license numbers on - cars sold or being be-ing sold, the secretary of state has mailed a circular letter to oach dealer, deal-er, with explicit instructions, as follows fol-lows : "Salt Lake City, Sept. 26, 1917. "Gentlemen: Your attention has been called to the fact that in many instances dealers havo permitted purchasers pur-chasers of cars to retain tho dealers' number on such cars. In lieu of registering reg-istering tho samo in tho office of tho socretary of state. This Is a direct violation of tho law and such dealers will be held responsible for tho misuse of number plates Issued to them, and, If found noceesary, violators of this provision of the law will be prosecut cd. "Tho law anticipates that dealers' numbers will bo used only In tho courso of business. Tho dcalor has no authority to uso any such numbers on privately operated cars. "In order to check with your records, rec-ords, you aro roqulred to advlsd -dils department as to tho number of deal, ers' plates now being used by your company, and, If any plates issued to you as dealers aro now being carried on private cars, you aro Instructed to call tho samo In Immediately.
