Show WEBER COUNTY MILCH COWS HAVE BEER i SOLO OFF i In an effort to build up the strain j of dairy stock in Weber county, local ' members of the farm bureau are urg- : ing the purchase of purebred cows. I Preston Thomas, county farm agent, ' and John Felt, a director of the Weber : county farm bureau, have been in sev- I oral districts in the county stimulat- ing interest in this idea and say that j the farmers are- everywhere1 eager to co-operate. It is proposed to buy pure- ' bred milch stock and to gradually dis- j place tho scrub cows and ill-bred stock which overrun the county at ; present. j Mr. Felt says that milk production in Weber county and generally ! throughout the state has been reduced 50 per cent this year as a result of adverse conditions during the past ; nine or ten months. The high price J of hay and tho low price of milk I caused the farmer to sacrifice his " milch cows to the butcher, who was waiting with a good price for beef l stock. As a result there are few good ; producing herds in the county and the general production of milk has C fallen away down. The farm bureau c Is trying to build up this branch of (j farming again, advising the purchase I of pure stock and a general increase c in supply of milk. A In the Hooper district fanners have h beenrged to buy Holsteln cows, as the presence of the cheese factory r there offers a good market for this 0 kind of milk. 9 oo i |
