Show MURDER TRIAL IS OPENED AT MALAD Malad, Ida., Nov. 14. Trial was begun be-gun here this morning of Ray M. Thompson, charged with manslaughter manslaugh-ter for the alleged killing of George McLaughlin two years ago. A jury was obtained and three witnesses were examined before the hour of adjournment ad-journment of court. The trial is being be-ing conducted bpfore District Judge John Guheen of Pocatello. G. E. Tucker, a civil engineer, testified tes-tified as to the nature of the ground where the shooting of McLaughlin oc- curred on tho Thompson ranch a few t. miles from here. Dr. C. R. Ray testl- i field that McLaughlin died of bullet J wounds. Denny Bernick, an cyo-wit- i ness, testified to having seen Thomp- son shoot McLaughlin. The killing occurred as a result of 1 a quarrel between tho two men. At ' the time McLaughlin was armed with ; a .22-caliber rifle, having been out ' hunting. Thompson shot him with a large caliber rifle, according to the r evidence brought out in the preliminary prelimin-ary bearing of the case. Whether or not McLaughlin tried to defend himself with his small rifle is a mooted point, the settlement of 5 which is the important point in the case. on |
