Show OAKS SHOVED DOWN THE LINE Vernon Takes Second Game From Oakland 2 to 1 Twelve Innings Played. Los Angeles. Aug. 31. Vernon shoved the Oaks a notch further into the hole today by taking the second game of the series by a 2 to 1 count. Although the net results of today's gamo between the Tigers and Oaks was about the same as most games between these teams, it took the Tigers Tig-ers twelve long woarysome innings to turn the trick. Chief Johnson started the contest for the Vernonites and stuck to his guns until the last. For the full twelve frames the chief was rather stiqgy, allowing only five hits off his delivery. The only time the chief was in difficulty was the opening canto. In this frame he was found twice, allowing Oakland's only run to sift over the platter. Ote Crandall was his chief opponent, oppo-nent, rivaling the chief very closely in stinginess. Like the chief, Crandall Crand-all saw the first run drift over the plato in tho opening frame. After that inning it was a battle royal between be-tween the two until the twelfth, when Ote Crandall saw twelve Innings of toil expended for nothing but another defeat chalked up against him. Oakland opened tho initial frame by Barry singling to center after two were down and stealing second Ken-worthy Ken-worthy walloped another single to center, scoring Barry. In the same frame Vernon tied the count by Doane and Gleichmann drawing walks. Rlsberg forced Gleichmann Gleich-mann at second, Doane going to third. Bates filed to Kenworthy, allowing Doane to score when Vann dropped the throw. The final tally came in the twelfth when Daley, the first man up, tripled to left and Bcored on a single to center cen-ter by Mattick.
