Show CARS READY 10 RACE250 MILES Beautiful and Valuable Trophies Troph-ies to Be Given at Big Race at Sheepshead Bay-Speedway. Bay-Speedway. New York, Sept 30. Thirty-two cars, all that the track will hold in safety, are ready to race 250 miles over the Sheepshead Bay Speedway this afternoon for the Astor Cup. In enormous attendance of society folk and racing enthusiasts Is assured. The stands will seat 60,000 and 10,000 cars can be parked. It is expectod the winner will make woll over 100 miles on hour for the course. The track is said to bo tho fastest in the world. It 1b a two mile oval, carefully banked and built in the solldest manner. Experts thought today that Itesta's Peugeot, Altken's Pouget and De Palma's tiler had a shade of the better bet-ter prospects although there are many other good entries. The race starts at 2:30 p. m. The pecuniary Incentive which will urge on the drivers in their reckless fight is a total cash prize award of $25,000. Of this amount tho winner will receive $10,000; second, $5,000 third, $2,500; fourth, $1600; fifth, $1308; Bixth, $1,200; seventh, $1,000; eighth, $900; ninth, 800; tenth, $700. But more than this the race represents the beginning of tho final lap in tho exciting struggle for tho honor of being be-ing declared the champion race driver of the year by the American Automobile Automo-bile Association. In this connection the present standing of the drivers, Resta having 2,400 points, Do Palma, 1,790; Aitken, 1,720; RIckenbacher, 1570, and D'Alene, 1,20. And in addition addi-tion to the cash prizes there are several sev-eral beautiful and valuable trophies to be annexed by the winner notably the Bosch and Rayfield trophies. The thirty-two cars which will circle ttho track represent cash value of more than $500,000 a sum greater than is expended on the most elaborate theatrical productions. |
