President Presi-dent Wilson, launching into a political speech here today before a New York delegation of young Democrats, demanded de-manded to know what the "Republican party would do if it controlled the government. He declared he had found nothing to interest him in the campaign of the Republicans. The president said he had hoped for a campaign based on real issues, but that he had been disappointed The Democratic party, he declared, is the only party in the nation based on the rule of the people. Republicans Outlive Usefulness. The president launched a vigorous attack on the Republican party, saying that it had outlived its usefulness, "I think the Democratic party will witness the death knell of the Republican Repub-lican party," declared tho president. "It has already seen two great parties come and go," He said the Democrats had driven the corrupt lobby from Washington. "The rats disappeared as soon as they were pointed to," he added. "Some of the very gentlemen who were prominent In the odious days of Mark Hanna are again in control of the Republican party," said President Wilson, amid great applause. The president said the program of the Democratic party was to continue the "liberalization" of American business busi-ness and to place the people in con trol of their government. . nn |
