Show TIGERS TAKE GAME 1 TO 5 Portland Beavers Lose to Ver-nonites Ver-nonites in Slow Game Score Tied in Third. Portland, Ore., Sept. 29. In a woefully woe-fully slow game Vernon today tied up the series with Portland, score 7 to 5. The only real excitement was an oratorical tilt between the Vernons and Umpire Held, resulting when Held called time just before Roy Mitchell Mit-chell plastered a strlko across the plate in the seventh inning. Mitchell talked himself out of the game and five dollars. Jack Quinn succeeded I in the box. Kelly for Portland pitched great ball for six innings and then suddenly sudden-ly lost hold. Ono run scooted across and the bags were filled, when Mc-Credle Mc-Credle rushed Hagerman out to tho rescue. Bates, first up, poked a two-bagger two-bagger over first, scoring two runners and Griggs scored two more on a single sin-gle through short, Rodgers tripled against the right wall In the last of the seventh and added one to Portland's total and the BeaverB registered two more in the eighth off Quinn on a walk, error by McGaffigan and hit by Williams.
