Show H GOVERNMENT HAS A H DUTY TO PERFORM. H Our soldier boys, in being sworn in, H are obligated to the government. The V Santa Cruz News says there should bo H two oaths one for the men and the H other for the government. Here is the H oath suggested for the government: H "To all and each of you whose m names are entered on this roll, hav- t ing been duly accepted In the United H States Army as commissioned officers 1 or enlisted men of the militia, the H United States government, through its H constituted authorities, does hereby H solemnly promise you that it will M equip you properly to discharge the m terms of your allegiance to these B United States of America as far as it 1 is possible with the aid of modern H -weapons of warfare, protect you from Hl annihilation by any enemy whatso- Hl ever; and that It will watch out for 1 your health in camp and otherwise H keep you fit to obey the orders of M the President of the United States M and the orders of the officers appoint- H ed over you according to the rules H and articles of war. So help us H God." Hj The oath might include an obliga- H tion on the part of the government Hj to care for the dependents of all sol- H diers killed or wounded in action. |
