Show Iccbi III SIPS INJUiSFIHUO WRECKS SICK S. J. Nelson, night fireman at the Southern Pacific power house, and several other workmen were Injured at midnight when an explosion of fuel oil gas wrecked sixty feet of the large brick smokestack and damaged several sev-eral of the buildings adjoining the power house. Nelson was blown against a wall several feet from where he was standing stand-ing and in addition to having some bones broken, received severe burns. He was hurried to the Dee hospital where, according to reports, ho is expected ex-pected to recover. None of the other men received Injuries serious enough to require hospital treatment The explosion was caused by an accumulation of fuel oil gas, under the base of the smokestack, which became Ignited In a manner that has not yet been determined. Part of the huge stack fell in pieces and wrecked the roof of the power house and damaged dam-aged other buildings on Its downward path. oo |
