Ralph Gruman and Frankie Callahan, tho classy lightweight boxers who meet In a twenty-round bout at the Salt Lake theatre tonight, wound up their training train-ing yesterday afternoon and pronounce pro-nounce themselves in the best of shape for tho fray. At a meeting yesterday afternoon between the principals, their managers, man-agers, Promoter Tom Painter and Hardy K. Downing, Tom Painter, who has made the bout possible by furnishing fur-nishing the necessary money, was selected se-lected as the third man in the ring tonight With the question of referee settled, the men talked over the rules and agreed that they would box straight Marquis of Queensberry rules, hitting as long as one arm was free, but also agreed to break at the command of the referee, but to protect themselves them-selves at the same time, so that there , will be no hugging or wrestling, and if one or the other is able to slip over a punch in the breakaway he has a perfect right to do so. While Roche is confident that his boy will bring home the decision, he would not predict how many rounds the bout would go, but did say that he expected to see one of the greatest great-est little battles in the country. Both boys declare that they are down to the required woight of 135 pounds, and that tho weighing in at DowningJs gymnasium, over 48 E. Second South, at 3 o'clock this afternoon, after-noon, is only a formality which the public is invited to come and see. Tom Crawford and Jess Oren, who will furnish the six-round semi-wind-up, are also in fine fettle and ready for the gong. Kid Mack and Young Maloney will furnish the four-round preliminary. Tho doors of the Salt Lake theatre will be opened at 7:15, and the first bout will be called at 8:30 sharp. |
