For alleged false arrest and imprisonment, suit for $10, 250 damages was yesterday filed in the Third district court by Ella Williams Wil-liams Olsen against John S. Corless, sheriff of'Salt Lake county, and E. C Penrose, deputy sheriff. The action Is based upon the allegation alle-gation that the plaintiff was taken into custody and unlawfully detained on December 4, in the course of Investigation Inves-tigation by the sheriff of a suspected I. W. W. conspiracy to dynamite Governor Gov-ernor William Spry's house on the night of November 18, the night before be-fore the morning of Joseph Hillstrom's execution. Mrs. Olsen was engaged In the capacity ca-pacity of office manager or inspector for the Intermountain Protective Service Ser-vice company, organized and operated by "Captain" H. F. Gerry. Appeared as Witness. Mrs. Olsen appeared as the principal witness against Gerry when he was convicted before Judge N. H. Tanner of the city court on a charge of opening open-ing and publishing a letter addressed to another. Her own arrest followed the conviction of Gerry by about a week, as did those of Harry McDonald and James Riley, two other operatives of the Gerry agency. Mrs. Olsen was finally released, while McDonald and Riley were held in bonds pending further investigation of the alleged conspiracy. The expressed expres-sed theory of the sheriff at the time was that Gerry's agency and his operatives oper-atives had been responsible for all the excitement over a plot to dynamite dyna-mite the governor's residence. |
