Show oo H STATE AUDITOR IS I UNIFYING SYSTEM I Stato Auditor Lincoln G. Kelly is H recommending some changes in the jH state road commission's method of H keeping its road tax accounts with H the various counties. The changes H suggested are in line with the efforts jM of the state auditor's department to H unify the business and accounting H systems of all the sCate departments H and Institutions. H Auditor Kelly yesterday addressed IH a letter to the road commission, ask- H ing that body to conform to the same H system that is employed with refer- H ence to other taxes. Mr. Kelly said H In his letter: H "In the interest of uniformity, sini- H plicity and economy, it seems to me H that the state road tax accounts H should be kept in the same manner jH as state and state school, high school H and bounty taxes are kept." H The road commission has been call- H Ing upon county auditors for their H road taxes on December 31. The oth- H nr taxes are collected on this basis: H On or before tho first Monday in H September, county auditors are called H upon for. statements of the assessed jH valuation. Immediately county treas- H urers aro charged with the amounts H of taxes for their counties and the H check Ib made by the state auditor a H and the state treasurer when tho m tax money is paid. H The road commission, working on H a system of Its own, says Mr. Kelly, H has caused more or less confusion H and additional and more-complicated m work. He believes that the road com- H mission will readily agree to the sys- m tern which prevails in keeping ac- m count of the other taxes. H The matter will probably como be- H fore the road commission, this week, H when also the mooted road project Jm between Orangeville and Huntington m will come up for disposition. H |
