Show H HOW TAXES REST M ON THE POOR. 1 Box Elder county has a peculiar Hl system of assessing property for ta-c- H ation. For many years, a big percent- H age of the range land in the north- Hl western part of the county was held Hl by the Crocker Estate. The assessed Hl value per acre was almost nothing. H Then the land was sold and much of 1 it was transferred to dry farmers and prospective dry farmers with small resources. Immediately the assessed value was jumped from a few cents per acre to $2 per acre. This is one of tho discriminations which causes unrest among the small property owners of Utah. The people least able to help maintain the cost of governmont are called on to carry a load wholly out of proportion to their possession of material resources. |
