Show VILLA EAGER FOR PEACE IN MEXICO Willing to Eliminate Himself in Order to Establish Confidence. Washington, Aug. 31 The Pan-American Pan-American peace appeal now has been delivered to all military and political leaders in Mexico. Several leaders In remote sections have just been reached reach-ed by courier and to give them time for reply there probably will bo no meeting of the Pan-American conferees confer-ees until next week General Carranza's reply still is lacking but it has been authoritatively authoritative-ly declared that tho confees will proceed Irrespective of his attitude. Major General Hugh L. Scott, chief of staff of tho army, conferred with Secretary Lansing today and reported the result of his conference with General Gen-eral Villa and othor northern Mexicans. Mexi-cans. General Scott said Villa and his adherents were sincerely anxious for peace. "General Villa," said General Scott "Is earnestly desirous for peace In Mexico, and ho is willing to sacrifice any personal ambitions and to eliminate elim-inate himself if necessary In order to bring it about." oo |
