Show BISHOP GLASS GIVEN A RECEPTION I "i SALT LAKE r Archbishop Edward J. Hanna, who is to conduot tho installation of Bishop Bish-op Glass into his new position as bishop of Salt Lake Catholic diocese, arrived in Ogden this morning and will remain heTo until tomorrow. Ho was met at the Union dopot by Father Slattery of St Joseph's cnurch, and taken to the church priory to rest preparatory to the duties which are bofore him tomorrow. The California prelate has visited tho city on numerous other occasions and stated this morning that he was as well acquainted with it from all sides as his home town of San Francisco. Fran-cisco. He is also an admirer of Ogden Og-den canyon and a ride through the inviting gorge was contemplated for his entertainment this afternoon by his local hosts. Ho will depart for Salt Lako City tomorrow morning at 7:30 o'clock-Reception o'clock-Reception Thl Evening. Salt Lake City, August 31. At 8 o'clock thiB ovonlng a public non-sectarian reception will be held on tho second floor of tho Hotel Utah. Among those in the receiving line will bo Bishop Glass and visiting clergy, Mayor and Mrs. Samuel C. Park, the senators and representatives In congress con-gress and other prominent citizens. To this reception tho public Is Invited, Invi-ted, and the new bishop has expressed the hope that he may be able to meet at this reception a large number of Salt Lako people, Irrespective of their religion. The MoBt Rev. Edward J. Hanna, D. D., archbishop of San Francisco, arrived in Ogden at noon today. He will remain hero over night and go to Salt Lake on Wednesday forenoon. fore-noon. The archbishop will preside at tho Installation ceremony tomorrow tomor-row forenoon and will preach the Installation In-stallation sermon. Bishop Glass will be the celebrant of the solemn pontifical pon-tifical mass. Tho augmented cathedral cathe-dral choir, under the direction of Miss Nora Gleason, will sing the mass to the accompaniment of tho cathedral cathe-dral organ and orchestra. The installation in-stallation will bo one of the most notable events in the ecclesiastical history of Salt Lake. It will begin promptly at 10 o'clock with a procession proces-sion from tho episcopal residence to St Mary's cathedral. Because of the enormous crowd expected at the ceremony cere-mony tho clergy have urged the people peo-ple to come aos early as possible. A portion of the church will be reserved for pew holders until 9:55 o'clock, after which all of the seats will be open to tho public. Will Banquet Bishop. At noon tomorrow the clergy of tho diocese will bo hosts to the visiting prelates and priests at a luncheon at tho Hotel Utah roof garden. On Wednosday evening at 7:30 o'clock the Catholics of the diocese will be hosts at a banquet at the Hotel Utah given in honor of Bishop Glass. Tho new bishop expressed himself as being be-ing pleased to be the guest of the Catholics of the diocese, and declared that ho hopes as many as possible of his flock would attend. He said that ho hoped the affair would not be regarded re-garded as at all exclusive, as ho wished wish-ed to meet all classes In his diocese, the rich as well as tho poor. He expressed the hope particularly that as many as possible from outside of Salt Lake would attend the dinner. The banquet will not be formal. The women as well as the men will attend. Reservations havo been made for a largo number of Catholics expected at the banquet from Ogden, Park City and Eureka. Qulgley Is Toastmaster. Colonel C. A. Qulgley will be toast-master toast-master at the banquet Archbishop Hanna will invoke the blessing. Former For-mer United States Senator Thomas Kearns, in behalf of tho Catholics of the diocese of Salt Lake City, will welcome the new bishop. Bishop Glass will respond to the address of welcome. Father Kloly will deliver a eulogy of the late Bishop Laurence Scanlan. For the clergy of Los Angeles An-geles the Rev. Dr. R. J. Cottor will speak, and the Rev. Father P. M. Cushnahan of Ogden will respond in behalf of the clergy of tho diocese of Salt Lake. W. H. Leary will speak for the laity.
