Machinists Ma-chinists of the Lake Torpedo company, compa-ny, who suddenly left their work yesterday yes-terday because they had not received a satisfactory answer to a demand for an Increase in wages, claimed today to-day that they had been joined by members of the Brotherhood Amalgamation Amal-gamation of Engineers, a British labor la-bor body, equivalent to the International Interna-tional Association of Machinists. The trouble at the Lake Torpedo company arose over tho wage Ibbuo. The Burns and Basslck company today to-day poBted a notice to Its men, who number about 300, that the nine hour day with the present ton hour wage scale had been voluntarily granted. The concern makes oil cups for auto- mobiles which are shipped abroad. Bridgeport, Conn.. Aug. 12. Tho reply of the Locomobile company com-pany of America to the demand of about 800 of its employes for a readjustment read-justment of hours and pay was expected ex-pected today Employes of the American and British Brit-ish company and the Standard Manufacturing Manu-facturing company have voted to present demands, the refusal of which it was said, would mean a strike. oo |
