Show i UO TALS" OF BREWER TO BE ARRESTED Salt Lako, Aug. 12. The arrest of one or more men now In Salt Lake for complicity in tho daring plot discovered dis-covered Tuesday to deliver Harry Brewer, convicted murderer, from the state prison is confidently expected by prison officials and members of the sheriff's force. Brewer's plans, as revealed by investigation in-vestigation yesterday, are altogether the most daring chronicled In the criminal annals of the prison. Not since tho general break of prisoners In 1903 has such a daring plot, deep and -carefully laid as Is this one, been formulated, In the memory of the prison officials The plot of Brewer and his accomplices accom-plices Is especially daring, in the eyes of the authorities, from the fact that no other prisoner was concerned In another murderer was to be delivered, deliv-ered, also has been laughed at by thoso familiar with the plans laid by Brewer. It Is pointed out that rescuers, res-cuers, In order to release Hlllstrom, would have had to saw him out. ThlB would have required, oven with the best of tools, no less than six hours. To escape. Brewer would have had to seriously wound, If not kill, one or more of the prison guards, braving death hlmdelf at every turn. It was undoubtedly the plan of Brewor's two 'accomplices, who are knoVn to have come from Montana to aid In his escape, es-cape, to open fire on the guard in the northeast wall box at a given signal, sig-nal, thus attracting attention while Brewer was afforded an opportunity to get over the wall. Would Scale Wall. Just what plan Brewer had made for scaling the prison wall, which is nineteen feet high, is not known definitely. def-initely. It is pointed out. however, by persons 'familiar with tho prison interior in-terior that perhaps his two outside accomplices were to throw a rope over the wall when th'e agreed signal was given. This would set off the signal alarm system, but, nevertheless Brewer would have ample time to climb over the wall with the aid of the ropo. Once over the wall his escape would be assured, at least for a time. Tho two accomplices would have been undoubtedly provided with an automobile or other vehicle in which to flee from the prison How Brower proposed to communl-cnte communl-cnte with his two accomplices and how he has managed to do it in tho past are questions that are puzzling the authorities. Inasmuch as it was shown beyond doubt that he managed to communicate with the outside while In the county Jail,- carefully planning an escape from that Jail, which likewise like-wise was frustrated, it is not doubted that he managed to do so while at the state prison. |
