Show E 2 EXPLOSION 1 CAUSE UNKNOWN Investigation by Special Board Continues Edison Storage Battery Not Damaged. Now York, Jan 17. The cause of tho explosion within tho hull of the submarine R-2 in tho New York navy yard Saturday by which four men wero killed and ton others Injured was still undetermined today. A board of investigation appointed by Admiral Usher continued its inquiry and Is expected to complete ts work today and forward its report to the navy department de-partment without making It public. Louis C. Miles, chief electrician of the E-2, John Halsey, gunner's mate, and Guy II. Clark. Jr., machinist's mate, who were Injured by tho explosion ex-plosion are in a serious condition in Brooklyn hospitals. A statement issued last night by Miller Reeso Hutchinson, chief engin eer for Thomas E. Edison and a member of the naval advisory board, absolved from blame the Edison storage stor-age battery with which the boat was equipped. Ho declared tho battery was not damaged. |
