Show uo PROSPECT OF HAVING BASEBALL Oil THIS SEASON "Ducky ' Jones, the Ogden ball team's third baseman of last year, is soon to depait for San Francisco where he expects to play the coming M-ason. He states that he can see no chance for professional baseball in Utah outside of Salt Iake ibis year, as only the Ogden team remains to make up the sport Salt Lake will be associated with the Coast league and that means that no other ball organizations organi-zations in the state, except Ogden, remains to get the game started. "Ducky"' says however, that there is a possibility that some of the southern south-ern Idaho towns will join with norlh-ern norlh-ern and central Utah cities In form ing a mountain league that could fur nlsb good games of a semi-profession' al nature. President A P Bigelow of the Ogden Og-den organization states that the annual an-nual meeting will be held early in February, at which time reports will be made and the matter of playing ball this year will be considered He says that there is a deficit In the treasury that will have to be met before be-fore arrangements for 191a baseball can be taken up ery enthusiastically. He is of the opinion, however, that the. overdraft can be met satisfactorily when the members of the club get together to-gether and understand the situation. Mr. Bigelow is of the opinion that baseball in Ogden has won such favor with the people that there should be B scries of professional games in the city this season. Even with Salt Lake In the Coast league this year, Mr. Bigelow thinks that a second league may be organized. Twin Falls, Pocatello and Idaho Falls might organize or-ganize one team, Cache county another. an-other. Ogden the third, Salt Lake county a fourth and the cities of Utah county the fifth club. The distance across this district would not be very great and it is claimed that the population popu-lation Is sufficient to support five good teams. |
