Show I MANY BABIES PRESENT I TO SE EXMH I FOR DEFECTS H "Nearly a half hundred babies under- Hl went examinations tills morning at H the Ogden High school, the occasion M being the opening season of tjio three H days, "Child Welfare Examinations" H being held by the local Children's Aid J Society. Similiar examinations nave been held before under the auspices M of the society and while much good H has been done, those that were given H this morning and that are to bo given M tomorrow and Friday mornings will H have a community-wide effect In the H resultant beneft to its youngest gen- M The examinations were held in the M basement of the school, three large H rooms being utilized, before 10 o'clock B the mothers of the young hopefuls', H who had been registered before the H lists were closed, were on the ground H anxious to learn the true mental and H physical condition and to receive the H advice of the attending physicians as H to their future care. The scene was H one of the most interesting that has H ever been staged in the city marking, H as it did, the widening of a sphere of H splendid welfare work. H There were babe3 there from vir- H tually even' section of life and a H more promising looking lot of future H citizens would be hard to find. The Hj : members of the Children's Aid So- H clety, who have shown a fine unani- H mlty of Interest in the welfare work, H were out in force, about 25 being ac- H tivcly engaged in receiving the moth- H crs and assisting the physicians by H attending to the clerical part of the H ( scoring. This was done according to H the better babies standard score card H .' issued by the Better Babies Bureau H of the Woman's Home Companion to H which a copy of each score is to be H sent. The genealogical record of H each babe, with its weight at birth H and conditions of its growth since H birth, were taken in the reception H room by a member of the Aid Society, H before the child was sent into the H main examination room. Five promi- H nent local specialists of a large num- H ber who had volunteered their serv- H ices to the committee, then began the H principal work, each being assisted by H a trained nurse. The mothers kept Hj close at hand, in keeping with one of j the main objects of the committee in H arranging for the 'examinations, to Hj hear all that was said by the physl- H clan regarding their babes and to re- H ceive his advice as to the manner in H which a defect could be corrected. H The babes were separated into H three divisions, the first, taking in H those between the ages of 6 to 12 H months inclusive; the second, those H from 13 to 24 months, inclusive and H the third, those from 25 to 36 months Hj inclusive. It had been planned to have H those in the first and second divisions H examined this morning, but, owing to H the large number in the second divis- j ion. it was decided that their exami- nation should take place tomorrow 1! morning, and the others were looked ! after today. On Friday, the children between the ages of 3 and 5 years, inclusive, will be examined. The hours each day are from 10 a. m. to 12:30 p. m. i There are five tests made of each H' cn,ld In order to make a complete J scoring. They include "mental l and developmental' "measurements," "physical examinations' "oral and J dental examination" and "eye, ear, nose and throat" H rm. |
