Show DM WARDS HERE TO CLAIM PART OF DIG REWARD David Edwards, the Pinkerton detective de-tective who encountered with desperadoes despe-radoes on the night of November 9, 1913, and was riddled with bullets on West Seventeenth street, is in the city today conferring with county and city officials and private parties respecting re-specting the rewards offered for the apprehension and conviction of the guilty. J. H. Martin is serving five years, in the state penitentiary for the crime, and, Governor William Spry authorized author-ized the payment of a reward of $5,000 to David Edwards and others for furnishing the testimony on which conviction was had. Edwards was awarded about 50 per cent of the reward, re-ward, as It was considered that he was most Instrumental in disclosing Martin's identity and also that his testimony was a vital factor In his touvicuon. mere were twenty-two other applicants for the Reward. Both Weber county and Ogden city offered a reward of $1,000 for the conviction con-viction of the guilty party, and It Is said by officials that the money Is ready for distribution, but It is a question ques-tion with them, as to what the proportion pro-portion of distribution should be to each applicant The county attorney has commenced an action in the district dis-trict court requesting that the applicants appli-cants interplead and each state the amount claimed. It Is said In the pleadings that the county is ready to pay the reward and will place the money In the hands of the court for distribution In accordance with adjustments ad-justments that may be made by the :ourt after hearing the claims of the respective applicants for the reward. The city has taken no action as yet md there is a likelihood that none will be taken until settlement with :he county has been entered Into. It ivas stated by the city attorney, the )ther day, that the city may conclude :o not act on the reward until an ad-udicatlon ad-udicatlon by the courts Is had. He contends that Martin would not have been identified had it not been for -the bul. let wounds Inflicted by him In hid legs, and that, without his testimony, Martin would ot have been con-! vnjted. j Mr. Edwards has recovered from his wounds and is now able to walk without a cane. He was severely' wounded in the groin and other parts of his body with bicycle ball-bearings, discharged from a Bhotgun. |
