Show KINO'S ORDER TOBEOBEYED Invitations to Home Rule Conference Con-ference Are Loyally Accepted Ac-cepted by All. 5 I X REPRESENTATIVES Irish Nationalists Not Optimistic Opti-mistic One Member Only Raises Discordant Note. London, July 20 Premier Asquitb at the opening of the house of commons com-mons today announced that King George, "In view of the grave political situation, has considered it right to summon a conference of the representatives repre-sentatives of the political parties, both British and Irish, to discuss the outstanding points of the problem of Irish government." The premier added that the Right Hon. James Lowther. speaker of the house of commons, would, at His Ma jesty's request, preside over the conferences. con-ferences. In view of this development, Premier Pre-mier Asquith said he would not ask the house to discuss today the bill to amend the Irish home rule bill. King's Invitations Accepted. The invitations to the conference have been accepted by two representatives represent-atives each of the regular opposition, of the Ulster Unionists, of the Irish Nationalists, and of the government. Premier Asquith said he hoped the meetings of the conference would begin be-gin tomorrow. Andrew Bonar Law, leader of the opposition, on Its behalf, remarked that It had "loyally accepted the com-, com-, mand of His Majesty." John Redmond leader of the Irish Nationalists, scarcely appeared to regard re-gard the proposed conference as attractive. at-tractive. He said: "My colleagues and myself take no responsibility for the policy of calling call-ing this convention, and I do not think I am called on to express an opinion as to whether the result will prove useful or the contrary The invitation in-vitation came to John Dillon and myself my-self in the form of a command from the king and as such we at once obeyed it." Nationalist Member Aggressive. Lawrence Ginnell, a Nationalist member, interjected a warring note into the otherwise peaceful interlude by asking if there was any precedent for the premier advising the king to ' place himself at the head of a conspiracy con-spiracy to defeat the wishes of the house." The question was ignored and the house then proceeded with other business. |
