Scrap iron, obsolete ob-solete castings and other material w hlch an up-to-date railroad like the Oregon Short Line refuses to use was the cause of six officials of the Oregon Ore-gon Short Line taking a veek s trip over all the divisions of the road. E. C. Manson, general superintendent, said yesterday upon his return that he never saw so much "junk" In his life. "It Is wonderful the way obsolete material will accumulate on a railroad," rail-road," said Mr. Manson. "We care fully checked up the various scraps and sent most of It to the scrap heap, although some will be sold to other roads. Most of the material consist ed of engine parts which cannot be used In our modern locomotives." Those In the party were Mr Man-son, Man-son, Carl Stradley, chief englneei ; C. J. McNitt, auditor; G. H. Robison. general purchasing agent; T. A Mar tin, general storekeeper, and D. J Malone, master mechanic.
