Show I- oo BULKHEADS SOON TO BE REMOVED Bingham. Utah. Dec 19 -The bulkheads bulk-heads of the upper levels of the A pi x mine will probabh be removed next Wednesday, according tn teptatlvi plans discussed today by members of the sheriffs forces. The proposal was broached to some of the deputies by several Bingham residents who stated that since no noises bad been heard emanating from the tunnels In the last few days they thought 11 would be reasonably safe to open the mine. No definite decision In the mattei will he reached until the return ot Sheriff Smith from Salt Lake in the sheriff's absence Deputy R. L Eddington is in charge at headquar ters. while Deputy Mike Earl has charge of the guards at the mine The heavy and deep snow on the mountain is a source of great incon venience to the guards To make the trip from town to the mine now requires two hours or more. On the mountain top the snow Is from two to three feet deep Deputy Frank Sorenson on horseback this afternoon attempted to make the round of the tunnels, but before progressing hall way was forced to abandon the trip as his horse was exhausted by floun derlng about in the snow. Because of the difficulty experienced experi-enced by the guards in traveling to and from the tunnels and to enable the deputies to make the rounds ot the various workings several sets of snowshoes and skis will probably be ordered. Members of the sheriff's forces said today that they are confident that Lopez is confined behind the bulk heads, which for several days have sealed the upper level6 of the mine above the Andy tunnel. As to whe (her he is alive, there is a difference of opinion although most of the depu ties say they bellee the bandit must be in serious condition from want ot food water and clothing and it is not ! thought possible that he can survive 1 another five days t Following the smoking process by I which the mine was filled with dead I j luiii. s for three days, the blank els, a coat and dinner bucket know.' to have been used by Lopez were round by the searchers. This Indicates Indi-cates lo the deputies, they say. that the Mexican must be in want or lUCb articles. It Is further argued by ttfem I hat his shoes and clothing were badly torn during the chase oer and through the mountains west ot Utah lake. Although thre are many who say they doubt that Lopez Is In the mine, at least two men, Bill Ko ins and Samuel Rogers, are reported .is saving they have met and talked with Lopez In the Andy tunnel Only one of these men can be found ana there is some dllference of opinion as to his story. The other man. Rog , , has disappeared since the report that he said he had talked with Do bul members of the sheriffs force thej have every reason to believe the story told by him Is true In s sence. |
