Show uu CRIMINAL ACTIONS SET FOR HEARING Salt Lake. April 28. -Frank F. Merrill, Mer-rill, former guard at the state prison, will go to trial In the district court May 18 on a charge of aiding and abetting the escape of George W. Parry from the state prison. His case was set yesterday by Judge M. L. Ritchie. Parry, a degenerate serving sixty years for assault on a little girl, escaped es-caped over the prison walls in a manner man-ner that aroused the suspicion of prison officials, who believed the escape es-cape was not possible without the cooperation co-operation of a guard Parry was captured cap-tured after a sensational three-day chase. He made a confession as to bis method of eBcapo, involving Merrill. Mer-rill. The case of Joseph Hillstroru. accused ac-cused of the murder of J. G. Morrison Morri-son and Morrisons son, while hold Ing up the Morrison grocery store, j also was set yesterday for trial begin-1 nlng June 15. A motion for a change --!? of venue in Htllstrom's case is now pending before Judge Ritchie. Under the setting of criminal cases made vesterday the second trial of J A. Hill will begin June 8. Hill Is accused of the murder of Marshal ! Frank A Colclough at Midvak. He was convicted on his first trial, but I the supreme court granted a nw j trial. It is said to be probable that the cisc against Hill will be dismia- I sed in view of the remark of the su- $ preme court in reviewing the case that the evidence not only failed to show the defendant guilty of murder, but affirmatively showed that the de lendant was not guilty. |
