Show ALVEY A. ADEE TO LEAVE SERVICE Washington. D. C, March 15 Al-vcy Al-vcy A. Adee, who has been second assistant as-sistant secretary of state for nearly thirty years, Is reportod as about to resign his position. Rumor says that like John Bassott Moore he is dissatisfied dissat-isfied with tho conditions which obtain ob-tain in tho ntato department and that he will leave the government service on, June 1. It is almost impossible to estimate the value of Mr. Adec's services to Mr. Bryan. The state department is more formal than a lodge meeting; Adeo and Adee alone knows all the forms. Ho comos as near to being the American under secretary of state as Ib possible in the absence o that much needed office. Adeo is tho ono man who knows what to do in any emergency. If war is declared Adee knows how to do it, and after it is won he knows how to conclude tho articles of peace. His is the big intellect in tho department, depart-ment, and his continual service in hia present office .since 1886 is the force that has given unity to tho work of the department. If Adee goes it will probably bo im-1 posslblo to get aa efficient a man as he is to take his place. Ho has no understudy. |
