Show STRONG WIND DISPERSES ARM! Wind-driven Sands Beat on Unemployed Band Food Contributions Cease. ONLY 300 MEN REMAIN March to Washington May Be Abandoned 1200 Slip Away in Night. Sacramento, Cal March 16. A strong north wind last night did more to solve the problem presented by "General" Kelley's army of unemployed unem-ployed than any human agency has yet been able to accomplish. Camped on the Yolo levee across the Sacramento river from this city with no protection from the wind-driven wind-driven sands, the army disintegrated rapidly during the night, and it was estimated today that not more than 300 remained of the 1500 that came to Sacramento a week ago. Hunger also, had much to do with the desertions. Now that the novelty nov-elty of the army's presence has worn off, food contributions have almost ceased and the men are hungry. It is belicvod the march to' Washington will be abandoned and that the remnant rem-nant of the army will scatter in various va-rious directions. A hunger strike was threatened by the army today. A few loaves of oreau was an tne tooa sent across tue river up to noon and the more determined deter-mined men said they would starve until they had to be taken to hospitals. |
